Later that night, one of the pastors from one of the largest churches in Seoul wanted to meet with us for dinner. We all returned to our hotel, got dressed up, and then headed out to another hotel that supposedly had one of the best all-you-can-eat buffets in the city.
Once we arrived, we waited in the lobby for the rest of our team members to show up since we had taken three separate taxis to get there. I sent a message on WhatsApp letting them know we were “in the lobby waiting by the Christmas tree.” Funny enough, the other team members arrived—but they were waiting next to a digital Christmas tree. Technically, they were in the main lobby and we weren’t. Either way, it didn’t matter. What mattered was that we were together.
While waiting in the lobby, we met one of the lead pastors from another church. And boy—they weren’t wrong about the buffet. They led us up the stairs to the next level and paid for our entrance into the all-you-can-eat dining experience.
We were taken into a private dining area with a long table and closed doors. In that moment, I knew we were about to experience something special. We took off our heavy jackets and placed them on a rack nearby. I found a seat I liked at the end of the table—not too far from the center, but positioned so I could hear everything happening to my left.
One thing about me is that I always try to choose a seat that allows me to hear the conversation on my left side. My right ear doesn’t have a hearing aid and is completely deaf, so sitting on the right side of a table doesn’t make much sense for me. Anything said there would be lost.
After some small talk and once everyone was settled in, our lead pastor asked the pastor hosting us if they would be willing to lead us in prayer and bless the meal before we went our separate ways to explore the buffet. I was eager to try almost everything the buffet had to offer and couldn’t wait to get started.
After the prayer, we all dispersed in search of food. I’m not even going to describe everything I grabbed—that’s why I took pictures. All I’ll say is this: it was so delicious.
