Day 3: First Impressions, Mixed-Up Keys, and Dinner in Seoul

After arriving at our hotel from the airport last night—about an hour-and-a-half drive, around 6:30 p.m.—all I can say is that we were exhausted from spending 12 hours on a plane. I have so much more to share about what happened on the airplane that I didn’t include in the last post, but those stories will have to wait for another time.

When we checked into the hotel, the first thing that made me realize I was in a completely different country was inside the lobby. There was a tall cabinet on the floor that held firefighter suits, seemingly ready to go at any moment. I remember thinking how ingenious that was—anyone could jump into one of those suits and help in an emergency. Instead of waiting five to fifteen minutes for firefighters to arrive, action could happen instantly.

The second thing I noticed was our room. I’m sharing a room with my teammate, and there are two beds—one king-size and one twin-size. Before entering, I decided to film my first reaction to the room. I was shocked by two things. First, the bathroom doesn’t have a door at all—no privacy whatsoever. It’s just a massive doorway frame, big enough for just about anyone to walk through comfortably. Second, the bathroom itself has a tub, a shower, and a toilet, but between the toilet and the shower is a glass compartment with a sliding door separating the two. I immediately thought to myself that this might get…awkward. Really awkward.
